Delayed Postoperative Haemorrhage (Scottish Deerhound Type)

Test Overview:

Genotyping for the SERPINF2 variant is recommended before breeding Scottish Deerhounds and closely related breeds. Avoid pairing two carriers of the mutation to reduce the risk of producing offspring with two copies of the variant, thus minimizing DEPOH risk in the breed population. Because the allele is present in both Scottish Deerhounds and Greyhounds, breed clubs recommend integrating genetic testing as standard practice in responsible breeding programs.

Category:

Haemolymphatic - Associated with the blood and lymph

Gene:

SERPINF2

Variant Detected:

c.605C>T

Severity:

Moderate. This disease can cause significant signs of discomfort and/or dysfunction in affected animals. It may involve relatively high treatment/management costs, and can sometimes reduce life expectancy.

Mode of Inheritance:

Autosomal Recessive

Recommended Screening:

Genetic testing can determine if a dog is a carrier of Delayed Postoperative Haemorrhage disease.
