Test Overview:

Do not breed affected dogs (homozygous for the CNGB3 deletion) to avoid producing puppies with day blindness and impaired vision. Carrier x Carrier matings should be avoided: This combination results in a 25% chance of affected offspring per litter. Instead, breed carriers to clear dogs (non-carriers) so that offspring will not be affected, although some may be carriers. Routine genetic testing is advised for all potential breeding dogs in affected breeds to determine their status and guide safe pairings. If a breed is known to have the CNGB3 deletion, breed only clear (non-carrier) dogs or carrier to clear, never carrier to carrier or affected to any other status, to eliminate the risk of producing affected puppies over generations. Breed clubs and veterinary genetics organizations may offer specific recommendations (such as annual genetic screening and “no” breeding advice for affected individuals) to help eradicate the condition from at-risk populations
