Test Overview:

All breeding cats should be genetically tested for the MPS VII Variant 2 mutation (GUSB gene mutations). Cats with two copies of the mutation (affected) should never be bred, due to severe disease risk in offspring. Cats with one copy (carriers) show no symptoms themselves but can pass the mutation to offspring. Carriers should be bred only to cats tested clear (no mutation) to prevent affected kittens. Avoid mating two carriers to significantly reduce the chances of producing affected kittens. Responsible breeders should maintain genetic diversity while steadily reducing mutation frequency through selective breeding. Sharing of genetic testing results with other breeders and owners is essential for transparent breeding decisions.
