White Gloves (Birman Pattern)

Test Overview:

The KIT gene affects feline coat colour through modifying the expression of the pigments eumelanin and phaeomelanin in the hair, which results in the absence of pigmentation. The wg variant is a mutation in the KIT gene which results in the white feet or 'gloves' in the Birman cat breed. This occurs when two copies of the mutation are present. The clear white gloves are a part of the standard Birman cat breed, and the mutation is therefore essentially fixed in the Birman cat population, and all Birman cats must have two copies of the wg allele.
