Test Overview:

This genetic trait test identifies the causative mutation for Curly/ Wooly hair in the Cornish Rex. The cu mutation that is found on the LPAR6 gene is involved in hair and coat phenotypes in mammals. There are two copies of the cu mutation that are fixed in most Cornish Rex cats and as a result, produce a curly coat. Cats that are homozygous cu/cu show a wavy coat with no guard hairs. Outcrossing of Cornish Rex cats show that cats who have only one copy of cu mutation and one copy of wildtype Cu gene don't have curly coats, but rather exhibit typical straight coats.
