Test Overview:

Avoid Breeding Two B Blood Type Cats: Because type B cats possess strong anti-A antibodies, breeding two B type cats is safe but breeding a type B cat with a type A or AB cat can cause neonatal isoerythrolysis (NI) in kittens. Cross Blood Types Carefully: When breeding cats of different blood types, especially type B queens with type A or AB toms, there is a risk of neonatal isoerythrolysis in kittens which can be fatal. Prevent Neonatal Isoerythrolysis (NI): NI occurs when kittens inherit blood types incompatible with maternal antibodies passed in colostrum, often when type A or AB kittens are born to a type B queen. Genetic Testing: Use DNA testing to determine the blood group genotype of breeding cats. This helps predict blood types of kittens and prevent NI. Mate Selection: Preferably mate cats with compatible blood types or carriers to avoid incompatible offspring. Blood Group Frequencies: Some breeds (Siamese, Burmese, Oriental Shorthair) rarely carry the b allele and are mostly type A, while others (British Shorthair, Cornish Rex, Exotic Shorthair) have higher type B frequencies.
