Test Overview:

Genetic testing for CYP2R1 mutations is recommended for breeding cats to identify carriers and affected cats. Affected cats with two copies of the mutation should not be bred to prevent passing on the disease. Carrier cats can be bred to cats clear of the mutation, which prevents affected kittens but produces carriers. Avoid breeding two carriers together as this risks producing affected kittens. Breeders should share test results openly to enable informed breeding decisions that reduce the mutation frequency over time while maintaining genetic diversity.
