Test Overview:

Genetic testing for CYP27B1 gene mutations is strongly recommended for breeding cats, especially in breeds with reported cases or genetic predisposition. Cats identified as affected (two copies of mutation) should not be bred to avoid producing affected kittens. Carrier cats (one copy) can be bred, but only to cats that test clear to prevent affected kittens. Avoid mating two carriers to reduce risk of affected litters. Transparency in sharing genetic test results enhances responsible breeding programs and helps reduce disease prevalence without compromising genetic diversity.
