Test Overview:

Genetic testing for both CRX and CEP290 mutations is essential in Abyssinian and related breeds (e.g., Somali) to identify carriers and affected cats. For the CRX mutation (dominant form): Cats with one copy of the mutation are affected and should not be bred. For the CEP290 mutation (recessive form): Cats with two copies of the mutation (affected) should not be bred. Carriers with one copy can be bred but only to cats clear of the mutation to prevent affected kittens. Avoid carrier-to-carrier matings to reduce affected offspring risk. Sharing genetic test results among breeders is important for responsible breeding and reducing disease prevalence.
