Test Overview:

Genetic testing for the CLN6 mutation is essential for breeding cats in lines known or suspected to carry the disease. Cats with two copies of the mutation (affected) must never be bred due to severe disease and poor prognosis. Cats with one copy of the mutation (carriers) show no symptoms but can pass the mutation to offspring. Carriers should be bred only with cats tested clear of the mutation to avoid producing affected kittens. Avoid breeding two carriers together, as this risks producing 25% affected kittens. Responsible breeders should share genetic testing results openly to allow informed mating decisions and reduce NCL6 incidence while maintaining genetic diversity.
