Hyperoxaluria GRHPR (Domestic Short/Long Hair Type)

(ONLINE PRICE)

Test Overview:

Test all breeding cats for the GRHPR gene mutation to identify carriers and affected cats. Avoid breeding two carriers together, as this produces 25% affected kittens with the fatal disease. Carrier cats (one copy of the mutation) can be safely bred with clear cats (no copies) to produce healthy kittens while maintaining genetic diversity. Affected cats (two copies of the mutation) should never be used for breeding. Breed responsibly and disclose genetic test results to avoid spreading this disease.

Category:

Metabolic - Associated with the enzymes and metabolic processes of cells

Gene:

GRHPR

Variant Detected:

Base Substitution G>A

Severity:

Moderate. This disease can cause significant signs of discomfort and/or dysfunction in affected animals. It may involve relatively high treatment/management costs, and can sometimes reduce life expectancy.

Mode of Inheritance:

Autosomal Recessive

Recommended Screening:

Genetic testing of the GPHPR gene will reliably determine if a cat is a carrier of Hyperoxaluria GRHPR.
