Test Overview:

Ligneous Membranitis affects dogs and is an inherited, chronic inflammatory disease. Dogs affected with this disease will present by two months of age with severe ulcerations of mucous membranes including those of the mouth, eyes, and respiratory tract resulting in pain and discharge from the eyes and nose. Affected dogs will generally display increased respiratory sounds due to severe inflammation of the larynx and trachea. Enlarged lymph nodes, increased white blood cell counts, protein in the urine, and inadequate amounts of protein in the blood are commonly seen with this disease. In addition, affected dogs will often have severe, chronic inflammatory changes of the membranes lining the chest and abdominal cavities. Some affected dogs may be born with malformation of the Cerebellum, a part of the brain associated with coordinated movement. Affected dogs generally die or are euthanised before adulthood due to the severity of the disease and quality of life concerns.
