Leigh-Like Subacute Necrotising Encephalopathy affects dogs and is a neurodegenerative disorder. This disease is characterised by symmetrical, bilateral and necrotic lesions in the basal ganglia and brainstem. It is a mitochondrial disease caused by defects from the respiratory chain and leads to impaired energy production. Symptoms include seizures, dysphagia (difficulties swallowing), paresis (weakness), visual deficits, neurological deficits, behavioural changes and ataxia (incoordination). This disease is usually fatal.
